Pile Cap waterproofing with Visqueen GX Flexi HC Barrier

Pile Cap waterproofingVisqueen Pile Cap Sealer is a specialised formulation for use within ground pile caps. The system can be used in basements as described in BS8102:2009.

When applied to a concrete surface, the active chemicals react with the free lime and moisture within the concrete to form in depth, insoluble crystals which fill and block all capillaries, fissures, pores and minor cracks within the concrete; effectively making the concrete watertight for the lifetime of the structure.

In this video we demonstrate how to apply Visqueen Pile Cap Sealer and Visqueen Waterstops to a concrete pile.

The tools of the trade required for this installation are; a bucket of fresh water, an emulsion paint brush, a water dispenser, a pair of disposable protective gloves for the water stop installation and a low speed drill for the mixing process.

To complete the job, you will need Visqueen Pile Cap Sealer, Visqueen Waterstop mastic, Visqueen VX 90 Waterstop and Visqueen GX Flexi Hydrocarbon barrier.

The recommended mixing ratio for the Pile Cap Sealer is six litres of clean water per 25 kilo tub.

Pile Cap Sealer should always be added to clean water and, on-site, you would mix this with a low speed drill. Do not mix more material than can be applied in 30 minutes at 20⁰C or less in hot temperatures. The product will under-perform if water is added directly to the Pile Cap Sealer – so make sure you add the pile cap sealer in to clean water.

To ensure an effective curing process, the pile must be free from debris and also slightly damp.

In the event that the pile is dry, apply clean water using a water dispenser.

Pile Cap waterproofing

Apply the Pile Cap Sealer liberally with the emulsion brush across the top and sides of the pile. A second coat may be required. If so, apply the second coat when the first is touch-dry.

Pile Cap waterproofing When the pile cap sealer is dry and is fully cured, the water stop mastic can be installed. Unroll the GX flexi HC barrier membrane across the floor area. When you reach the pile, cut the membrane neatly around it.

The membrane will slot over the pile and lie flat so that it looks like this:

Now, you are ready to apply the Water Stop Mastic. Prior to applying the mastic, you will need to put on protective gloves.

Generously spread the Water Stop Mastic around the pile and GX flexi junction:

The Visqueen VX 90 water stop can now be applied to the pile and GS flexi junction.

Carefully position the VX 90 water stop into the mastic around the junction:

Ensure that the two ends of the water stop meet and form a butt joint.

The butt joint is meshed together like so:

The pile cap installation is now complete.
