Visqueen Radon Membrane has been installed at a new housing development in Toton, near Nottingham; it has been installed to ensure effective protection against the ingress of harmful radon gas.
House & Home Improvements has been commissioned to build two detached houses with a footprint of 12m x 12m each. However, the site on which the houses are being built has been classed as situated in a Radon affected area.
BRE Regulations state that reasonable precautions should be put in place to avoid danger to health and safety caused by contaminants on or in the ground covered.

The Pile Cap Sealer and Waterstops range is our new below ground waterproofing solution for high risk cast concrete applications; it works in conjunction with Visqueen Pre Applied Membrane (PAM) and forms part of our complete structural waterproofing solution, in accordance with BS8102:2009 regulations.
The Visqueen Pile Cap Sealer contains active chemicals which, when applied to a concrete surfaces react with the free lime and moisture within the concrete to form in depth, insoluble crystals which fill and block all capillaries, fissures, pores and minor cracks within the concrete. This effectively makes the concrete watertight for the lifetime of the structure.
Visqueen’s triangular VX90 Waterstop provides the ultimate watertight seal around the perimeter of the pile cap. This is a specially formulated sodium bentonite hydrophilic waterstop designed as an active reinforcement strip at internal 90° angles – changes of direction – and to seal around pile cap penetrations. The unique properties allow this high performance waterstop to swell in all directions of the water, acting as a barrier, unlike other waterstops which only swell in a uniform direction. The Visqueen Gas Venting Guide has been updated to include information on Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and Hydrocarbons, including the protective measures required as determined by CIRIA 716.
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are commonly found on land affected by contamination in the UK, at concentrations that result in the need for remediation and risk mitigation measures to be carried out to manage the potential risks to people.
Whist there has been a broadening in the range and complexity of remediation and risk mitigation techniques over the past few years, there is a lack of guidance specifically aimed at remediation and mitigation of risks arising from VOCs and Hydrocarbons.
Visqueen’s updated guidance is designed to provide architects, specifiers and other building professionals with a comprehensive information tool for understanding gas venting categorization and the protective measures required in relation to VOCs and Hydrocarbons.
